Parking Facility in Reasi Remains a Distant Dream, Roadside Parking Adds to Traffic Woes

Parking Facility in Reasi Remains a Distant Dream, Roadside Parking Adds to Traffic WoesREASI, SEPTEMBER 7: A proper parking facility at the Reasi district headquarters continues to remain a distant dream, with the absence of adequate parking space forcing people to park their vehicles along roadsides and at other available places.People arriving in Reasi town from different parts of the district often face difficulty finding a suitable place to park their vehicles. In the absence of adequate government parking facilities, vehicles are frequently parked along roadsides, particularly around the bus stand and other busy areas. This often leads to traffic congestion and affects the smooth movement of commuters. The parking problem is also visible in the main market area, where roadside parking occupies considerable space. At several places, the large number of parked vehicles affects the visibility of shops and adds to the inconvenience in the busy commercial area.Traffic authorities also take action against vehicles parked at unauthorized locations and issue challans. However, the basic issue of inadequate and organized parking space in the town remains unresolved.A few years ago, the Municipal Council had initiated the construction of a multi-storey car parking complex in Ward No. 4 of Reasi. However, the project remains incomplete and the facility has not yet been made operational for public use.Completion of the multi-storey parking complex could provide a designated space for vehicles and help reduce roadside parking. It could also ease traffic congestion, improve vehicular movement in the market area and provide greater convenience to people visiting the town. With the number of vehicles in Reasi town continuing to increase, the need for a proper parking facility has become increasingly important. The incomplete parking complex in Ward No. 4 has therefore remained a key point of public expectation for a long-term solution to the town’s parking problem.Until the much-needed parking facility becomes operational, roadside parking and traffic congestion will continue to pose a challenge for commuters and traffic management in Reasi town.
